A Light and Sound Bridge across the Danube River

At the premiere of the large-scale audiovisual project “Sound Bridges,” light, sound, and video merged into an emotional total experience that transformed the Danube River between Ulm and Neu-Ulm into a magical experiential space.
The 64-minute performance told a story of encounter and transformation through eight chapters. 130 musicians – including the motet choir of the Münster Cantoriate and the town bands from both cities – interacted synchronously across the Danube, creating a shared sound space, visualized by an impressive light arch over the river and between the stages.

The highlight of the German Music Festival 2025, commissioned by the cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm, staged an artistic bridge between the separated shores. STUDIO6 was responsible for the complex programming of light and video installations as well as the precise mapping on various projection surfaces – from water surfaces to the play areas between the stages.
The project was developed and realized by the artist collective wittmann/zeitblom & Liebert. René Liebert, as part of STUDIO6, was responsible for the light and video design and played a significant role in the artistic conception. In close collaboration with technical partners Satis&Fy and Audio-Express, STUDIO6 implemented the timeline-controlled programming for the light and video elements and their perfect synchronization into a complete experience.

Christian Wittmann described the work as a “counter-narrative” in a disruptive time: “In a time that feels very disruptive, even in everyday life. We felt that a counter-narrative is absolutely necessary.” (SWR Radio)
The Südwest Presse praised: “It is indeed a work of art – not a superficial spectacle, not a popular light show on the Danube or in the night sky.”
